Westfield is the newest school in the Avon Maitland District School Board; the result of the closing of Wallace Public School and Listowel Central. We opened in September 2016.
Westfield is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in the growing community of Listowel, Ontario. We have about 549 students in the school, along with 45 dedicated and caring staff members.
We are a school focused on student learning and cultivating character. We teach our students about social responsibility and the HOAP process (honesty, ownership, apology and plan). Our House Teams are cross-grade groups that meet together to learn about character, to participate in community events such as the Terry Fox walk and a carol sing. These teams help to build a sense of community in our school and provide opportunities for our oldest students to learn leadership skills and responsibility. This year we are focusing the Kindness Project. We believe our job as educators is not just to create great students, but to build great citizens. We are also a member of the North Perth Community of Character.
We are a community school benefitting from sharing our beautiful new facility with the Spinrite North Perth Daycare and Early Years Centre. The North Perth Day Care runs a child care program at the school before and after every school day. The Early Years Centre runs programs for parents and their children throughout the year and the North Perth Parks and Recreation Department provides community children with special programs during all holidays and on P.D. days. Many other community groups use our facilities to host their events as well.
We have many loyal volunteers and an active School Council who help enrich the educational opportunities for our students. Our volunteers run a snack program, and help with reading programs and classroom activities. We also have numerous community agencies working with the school to ensure a positive learning experience for all.
